Summary

The High Performance Computing Engineer works on a team of specialized individuals responsible for the architecture, design, implementation, monitoring, support, and maintenance of Information Services high performance computing (HPC) clusters and servers. This team is responsible for the scalability, redundancy, performance, and functionality of all aspects of research computing clusters and servers including upgrades, customization, and system integration. Collaborates on system integration activities with database administrators, software developers, network operations, and data center operations. Maintains a complex range of computer systems and application software. The team is responsible for supporting and monitoring research computing infrastructure services 24/7.

Minimum Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science or related field is required.
  • Master's Degree is preferred.

Minimum Experience

  • Six (6) years directly applicable systems administration and integration experience is required.
  • Experience with using and supporting Linux in a high performance cluster and research computing environment is required.
  • Experience supporting systems and applications infrastructure within a virtual infrastructure is required.
  • Experience with GPFS (Spectrum Scale) parallel file systems within an HPC context is highly preferred.
  • Experience with cloud computing and storage services in a research computing context is preferred.
  • Experience with firewall software and hardware concepts, SAN storage and system cluster hardware and software is preferred. Windows Server experience is preferred.
  • Two (2) years of systems administration experience is acceptable with a Master's Degree.
