St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is a premier center for research and treatment of potentially fatal childhood diseases including cancer, and certain blood, genetic, and immunodeficiency disorders. We invite applications and nominations for the position of Staff Veterinarian of the Animal Resource Center (ARC) of the hospital.
Duties and responsibilities include:
-Providing veterinary medical services for all species used in biomedical research in the hospital’s animal care and use program, including genetically altered mice, rats, ferrets and avian species.
-Developing standard operating procedures and guidelines for the care of complex animal models.
-Participation in IACUC activities including: Veterinary oversight review of protocols and amendments; preparation and revision of IACUC guidelines and policies, semiannual animal facility inspections and program reviews; and subcommittee meetings.
-Assisting in the development and use of the appropriate biomethodologies, animal research procedures/techniques, veterinary anesthesia, analgesia, surgery, experimental design, and animal models.
-Supervision of technicians including developing work schedules and assignments, training new technicians, and conducting performance evaluations.
-Working closely with the ARC Senior Management in the development and implementation of training programs for research and animal care personnel in accordance with NIH, USDA and AAALAC requirements.
